About EuroMillions

EuroMillions is a transnational lottery played in nine European countries: the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Ireland, Portugal, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Austria. Ticket sales from all of them feed a single jackpot, which is why EuroMillions prizes dwarf most national lotteries.

The draw is held in Paris on Tuesday and Friday evenings. Each country’s operator publishes the results and pays prizes in its own currency; the figures on this page are the official euro amounts.

How to play

You choose five main numbers from 1 to 50 and two Lucky Stars from 1 to 12. The price of a line varies by country (£2.50 in the UK, €2.50 in most euro countries) and each ticket automatically enters the local raffle or add-on game run by that country, such as the UK Millionaire Maker.

Lines can be picked manually or generated at random. Some countries offer a Plus or extra game for an additional fee that uses the same five main numbers.

Odds

The odds of winning the EuroMillions jackpot are 1 in 139,838,160: 5 numbers from 1–50 plus 2 from 1–12.

Prizes and jackpot

There are 13 prize tiers. The smallest prize is for matching two main numbers; the jackpot requires all five main numbers and both Lucky Stars. Prizes are pari-mutuel: each tier receives a fixed share of the prize fund, so the amount depends on sales and the number of winners.

The minimum jackpot is €17 million. It rolls over when it is not won, but it is subject to a cap; once the cap is reached and not won, the money rolls down to the next prize tier with winners.

History

EuroMillions started in February 2004 with three countries — the UK, France and Spain — and grew to nine within a year. The Lucky Star pool was expanded from 11 to 12 numbers in September 2016, which lengthened the jackpot odds and produced larger rollovers.

Frequently asked questions

Do all countries pay the same prize?

The jackpot and the main tiers are shared across countries, but lower tiers can differ slightly because prizes are converted into each country’s currency and rounded.
