About Lotto (South Africa)
Lotto is the original game of the South African National Lottery, operated by Ithuba. Six numbers are drawn from a pool of 52, followed by a seventh ball from the same machine that serves as the bonus ball. It is drawn on Wednesday and Saturday evenings and remains one of the most widely played games in the country.
This page shows the six winning numbers and the bonus ball for each draw, along with the jackpot the operator announces for the next one. LuckyNumberz does not sell tickets and has no connection with Ithuba or the National Lottery.
How to play
Choose six numbers from 1 to 52 for each board, or ask for a Quick Pick and let the terminal choose. Draws are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 21:00 South African time. Sales close shortly before the draw.
Tickets are sold by National Lottery retailers, through participating banks and through the operator’s official website and app. For a small extra amount per board you can add Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto Plus 2, two further draws held after the main draw that use the same six numbers with separate winning numbers and separate prize pools. This page shows the main Lotto draw only.
Odds
The odds of winning the Lotto (South Africa) jackpot are 1 in 20,358,520: 6 numbers from 1–52.
Prizes and jackpot
There are eight prize divisions. The lowest pays a fixed amount for two numbers plus the bonus ball; the top division requires all six main numbers. Because the bonus ball is drawn from the same machine after the six main numbers, it only matters when you have already matched five, four, three or two numbers, and it lifts each of those into a higher division. Six numbers wins the jackpot without any bonus ball.
Upper-division prizes are pari-mutuel, so the amount depends on ticket sales and on how many players share the division. When nobody matches six numbers the jackpot rolls over to the next draw and grows until it is won.
History
Lotto was the first game of the South African National Lottery, launched in March 2000 with six numbers from 49. Lotto Plus was added as an optional second draw in 2003. In July 2017 the pool was widened to 52 numbers and Lotto Plus 2 was introduced, giving each ticket the option of three draws in one evening.
Frequently asked questions
When is Lotto drawn?
On Wednesdays and Saturdays at 21:00 South African Standard Time, with Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto Plus 2 following straight afterwards.
What are the odds of winning the Lotto jackpot?
Matching six numbers from 52 has odds of 1 in 20,358,520. The bonus ball is not needed for the jackpot, so it does not change that figure.
What does the bonus ball do?
It is the seventh ball drawn from the same machine. If you have matched five, four, three or two of the six main numbers and also hold the bonus ball, you move up to the next prize division.
Are Lotto Plus results shown here?
No. Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto Plus 2 are separate draws with their own winning numbers; this page covers the main Lotto draw.
