About New York Lotto

New York Lotto is the New York Lottery’s own jackpot game, separate from the multi-state Powerball and Mega Millions draws it also sells. Six numbers and a Bonus Number are drawn from a pool of 59 on Wednesday and Saturday evenings, and all of the money stays within New York State, where lottery proceeds fund public education.

This page shows the six numbers and the Bonus Number for every draw, together with the advertised jackpot for the next one, taken from the New York Lottery’s published results. LuckyNumberz does not sell tickets and has no connection with the New York Lottery.

How to play

Choose six numbers from 1 to 59, or ask for a Quick Pick. Lotto is sold as two plays for $1: every play slip has two panels, so a single dollar gives you two sets of six numbers. You can enter the same numbers for several consecutive draws on one ticket.

Tickets are sold by New York Lottery retailers across the state. Sales for the evening draw close at 8:00 pm, fifteen minutes before the draw. The Bonus Number is the seventh ball out of the same machine; you do not choose it.

Odds

The odds of winning the New York Lotto jackpot are 1 in 45,057,474: 6 numbers from 1–59.

Prizes and jackpot

There are five prize levels. Matching six numbers wins the jackpot; five numbers plus the Bonus Number is the second prize; then five, four and three numbers. The three-number prize is a small fixed amount, while the upper levels are pari-mutuel and depend on sales and the number of winners.

The jackpot is advertised as an annuity paid over many years, with a smaller lump-sum cash option. When no ticket matches all six numbers the jackpot rolls over to the next draw and keeps growing until it is won.

History

Lotto was the New York Lottery’s first pick-your-own-numbers game, launched in 1978, and for years it was the state’s flagship draw before the multi-state games arrived. Its matrix has been enlarged several times; the current six from 59 with a Bonus Number is the format shown in this archive.

Frequently asked questions

When is New York Lotto drawn?

Wednesday and Saturday at 8:15 pm Eastern Time, with ticket sales closing at 8:00 pm.

What are the odds of winning the New York Lotto jackpot?

Six numbers from 59: 1 in 45,057,474 per play. Since $1 buys two plays, a dollar’s worth of tickets has twice that chance.

What is the Bonus Number?

A seventh ball drawn from the same 59-ball machine after the six main numbers. It only matters if you have matched five main numbers: five plus the Bonus Number is the second prize.

How long do I have to claim a prize?
