About La Primitiva
La Primitiva is Spain’s oldest lottery: its origins go back to 1763, and the modern game has been drawn continuously since 1985. It is run by Loterías y Apuestas del Estado (SELAE) and drawn three times a week.
This page shows the six numbers, the Complementario and the Reintegro for every draw, along with the official prize table.
How to play
Choose six numbers from 1 to 49. A bet costs €1, and the ticket also carries a Reintegro (a digit from 0 to 9) assigned at random. Draws are on Monday, Thursday and Saturday evenings.
For an extra €1 you can add the Joker, a separate seven-digit raffle number printed on the ticket. Tickets are sold at SELAE outlets and through the operator’s official website and app, and one ticket can cover several consecutive draws.
Odds
The odds of winning the La Primitiva jackpot are 1 in 139,838,160: 6 numbers from 1–49 plus one from 0–9.
Prizes and jackpot
There are eight prize categories, from the Reintegro alone (your €1 back) up to six numbers plus the Reintegro, the top prize. A seventh ball, the Complementario, is drawn from the same drum and creates the category for five numbers plus the Complementario.
Jackpots roll over without a cap. Prizes are pari-mutuel and vary with sales and the number of winners.
History
Spain first drew a numbers lottery in 1763 under King Charles III. The name “Primitiva” (“the original”) distinguishes it from the raffle-style Lotería Nacional that followed. The current 6/49 format with Complementario and Reintegro was set in 1985, and the Saturday draw was joined by Thursday and later Monday draws.
Frequently asked questions
When is La Primitiva drawn?
Monday, Thursday and Saturday at 21:40 Madrid time.
What are the odds of winning the top prize?
Six numbers from 49 plus the Reintegro: 1 in 139,838,160. Six numbers without the Reintegro is 1 in 13,983,816.
What is the Reintegro?
A digit from 0 to 9 printed on your ticket and drawn separately. Matching it alone refunds the €1 stake; it is also required for the top prize.
