About Thunderball

Thunderball is one of the National Lottery draw games in the United Kingdom, run under licence by Allwyn since February 2024 and by Camelot before that. It is built differently from Lotto: every prize is a fixed amount, the top prize is a fixed £500,000, and it is drawn four evenings a week — Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday — so it is the most frequently drawn game in the National Lottery range.

This page shows the five main numbers and the Thunderball for every draw, taken from the National Lottery’s official results feed, together with the prize breakdown once it is published. LuckyNumberz does not sell tickets and has no connection with Allwyn or the National Lottery.

How to play

A line costs £1. Choose five numbers from 1 to 39 and one Thunderball from 1 to 14, or take a Lucky Dip and let the terminal pick them for you. You can play the same line for several consecutive draws on one ticket, and you can enter all four weekly draws or only the days you choose.

Tickets are sold in shops across the UK and through the National Lottery’s own website and app. Sales close shortly before the draw at about 8:00 pm; a ticket bought after the cut-off goes into the next draw. The draw itself uses two machines, one for the main numbers and one for the Thunderball.

Odds

The odds of winning the Thunderball jackpot are 1 in 8,060,598: 5 numbers from 1–39 plus one from 1–14.

Prizes and jackpot

There are nine ways to win. Matching only the Thunderball pays £3, matching five main numbers pays £5,000, and five main numbers plus the Thunderball pays the top prize of £500,000. Because the Thunderball comes from a separate machine, a line can win with the Thunderball alone, with main numbers alone, or with a combination of the two.

Every prize is a fixed amount. It does not depend on how many tickets are sold or how many other players win, and the top prize does not roll over: if nobody matches five plus the Thunderball, the same £500,000 is simply on offer again in the next draw. If several tickets match, each one is paid in full rather than sharing.

History

Thunderball started in June 1999 as a Saturday-only game with main numbers from 1 to 34 and a top prize of £250,000. The main pool was widened to 39 numbers in May 2010 and the top prize doubled to £500,000 at the same time. Extra draw days were added over the years, and the game has been drawn four times a week since 2018.

Frequently asked questions

When is Thunderball drawn?

On Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at about 8:00 pm UK time. The numbers are published shortly after the draw and appear on this page as soon as the official feed carries them.

What are the odds of winning the Thunderball top prize?

Five numbers from 39 plus a Thunderball from 14: 1 in 8,060,598. Matching the Thunderball on its own, the lowest prize, has odds of about 1 in 29.

Does the £500,000 top prize roll over?

No. Thunderball prizes are fixed amounts, so there is no jackpot that grows between draws. The top prize is £500,000 in every draw.

What happens if more than one ticket matches five plus the Thunderball?

Each winning ticket is paid the full £500,000. Fixed prizes are not shared between winners.

How long do I have to claim a prize?

180 days from the draw date, the same as the other National Lottery games.
